Show intervals and notes for major, minor, 7th, diminished, and augmented chords from any root note.

Understanding Chord Construction

Chords are built by stacking intervals above a root note. A major chord uses a root, major 3rd (4 semitones), and perfect 5th (7 semitones). A minor chord flattens the 3rd to a minor 3rd (3 semitones).

Seventh chords add a fourth note. Diminished chords use a minor 3rd and tritone, while augmented chords use a major 3rd and minor 6th (augmented 5th).
