⚔️ D&D 5e Encounter Calculator
Calculate encounter difficulty for D&D 5th Edition. Input your party details and monsters to determine if the encounter is Easy, Medium, Hard, or Deadly.
How D&D Encounter Difficulty Works
The D&D 5e encounter building system compares the total adjusted XP of monsters against the party's XP thresholds. Monster XP is based on Challenge Rating (CR) and adjusted by a multiplier based on the number of monsters. The four difficulty tiers — Easy, Medium, Hard, and Deadly — help DMs balance combat encounters.
Encounter Multipliers
Multiple monsters make encounters harder than their raw XP suggests. The DMG provides multipliers: x1 for 1 monster, x1.5 for 2, x2 for 3-6, x2.5 for 7-10, x3 for 11-14, and x4 for 15+. These multipliers are further adjusted for small or large parties.
