How Dog Years Are Calculated
The classic rule of multiplying by 7 is an oversimplification. A more accurate formula, based on DNA methylation research, is 16 × ln(dog_age) + 31. This reflects that dogs mature rapidly in their first years and age more slowly later. A 1-year-old dog is roughly equivalent to a 31-year-old human, while a 5-year-old dog is about 57 in human years.
