How the Heat Index Is Calculated
The heat index uses the Rothfusz regression equation from the National Weather Service. It combines air temperature and relative humidity to estimate how hot it actually feels. When the heat index reaches 105°F or higher, heat exhaustion and heat stroke become likely with prolonged exposure.
