The Mid-Parental Height Formula
For boys: (father's height + mother's height + 5 inches) / 2. For girls: (father's height + mother's height − 5 inches) / 2. This method provides a rough estimate with a margin of error of about ±2 inches. Actual height depends on nutrition, health, and other genetic factors.
Factors That Affect Height
While genetics account for about 60-80% of height determination, nutrition, sleep, exercise, and overall health during childhood and adolescence also play significant roles. Growth hormone levels and the timing of puberty affect final adult height.
