🔢 Scientific Notation Calculator
Convert numbers to and from scientific notation.
What is Scientific Notation?
Scientific notation expresses numbers as a coefficient between 1 and 10 multiplied by a power of 10. For example, 123,000,000 = 1.23 × 10⁸ and 0.00045 = 4.5 × 10⁻⁴. This notation makes very large and very small numbers easier to read and compare.
Converting to Scientific Notation
Move the decimal point until you have a number between 1 and 10. Count the places moved: right moves give negative exponents, left moves give positive exponents. Scientific notation is standard in physics, chemistry, astronomy, and engineering.
