How to Calculate Stair Dimensions
Divide the total rise (floor-to-floor height in inches) by your desired riser height (typically 7-8 inches) to get the number of steps. The total run equals the number of treads times the tread depth (usually 10-11 inches). Building codes typically require risers between 7 and 7.75 inches.
