🚛 Freight Class Calculator
Determine NMFC freight class from shipment density (weight per cubic foot). Covers classes 50 through 500.
How Freight Class Is Determined
Freight class is based on the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) system and ranges from class 50 (most dense, lowest cost) to class 500 (least dense, highest cost). The primary factor is density: weight in pounds divided by cubic feet.
To calculate density, first find the cubic feet of your shipment by multiplying L × W × H in inches and dividing by 1,728. Then divide the weight in pounds by the cubic footage. The resulting density maps to a freight class.
