🧱 Grout Calculator
Calculate how much grout you need from tile area, tile size, joint width, and joint depth.
How to Calculate Grout Needed
Grout quantity depends on tile size, joint (grout line) width, and joint depth. The formula calculates the total linear inches of joint per square foot, then the volume of the grout joints, multiplied by the grout density (~100 lbs/cu ft for sanded grout). Larger tiles have less joint area and need less grout.
Grout Type Selection
Use sanded grout for joints wider than 1/8″ and unsanded grout for joints 1/8″ or narrower. Epoxy grout is more expensive but resists stains and moisture better. A 25-lb bag of sanded grout typically covers 100–200 sq ft of 12×12 tile with 1/8″ joints.
