🖼️ Image File Size Calculator
Estimate image file size from dimensions, bit depth, and compression ratio.
How Image File Size Is Calculated
The raw (uncompressed) file size equals width × height × bit depth / 8. For a 24-bit color image (8 bits per channel for RGB), each pixel uses 3 bytes. Compression formats like JPEG can reduce file size by 10× or more, while PNG provides lossless compression with lower ratios.
Common Bit Depths
8-bit (grayscale), 24-bit (standard RGB), 32-bit (RGBA with transparency), and 48-bit (16-bit per channel for professional editing) are the most common. Higher bit depth means more colors but larger files.
