How to Calculate Sand for a Sandbox
Multiply the sandbox length by width (in feet) by depth (in feet) to get cubic feet. Play sand weighs about 100 pounds per cubic foot. Divide by 27 for cubic yards, or multiply by 100 and divide by 50 for the number of 50-pound bags. A depth of 6 inches is a typical minimum for good play.
