🧱 Concrete Block Calculator
Calculate CMU (concrete masonry unit) blocks needed for a wall. Standard 8×8×16 blocks and mortar estimate.
How to Calculate Concrete Blocks
A standard CMU block is 8″ × 8″ × 16″ (nominal, including mortar joints). Each block covers 0.89 sq ft of wall face area. Divide the total wall area by the block face area to get the number of blocks. Add 5–10% for cuts and waste, especially at corners and openings.
Mortar and Fill Estimates
Approximately 3 bags (80 lb) of mortar are needed per 100 standard blocks. For structural walls, you may also need rebar and grout fill. Each filled block core uses about 0.01 cubic yards of grout. Always verify quantities with local building code requirements.
