Calculate depth of field, near/far focus limits, and hyperfocal distance from lens settings.
Understanding Depth of Field
Depth of field (DoF) is the range of distance in a scene that appears acceptably sharp. It depends on focal length, aperture (f-number), subject distance, and the circle of confusion (CoC). Wider apertures (lower f-numbers) produce shallower DoF, while smaller apertures increase it.
Circle of Confusion
The circle of confusion defines the maximum blur spot size considered "sharp." For full-frame sensors, 0.03mm is standard. APS-C sensors use ~0.02mm, and Micro Four Thirds ~0.015mm. The hyperfocal distance is the focus distance where everything from half that distance to infinity is acceptably sharp.
