š Potential Energy Calculator
Calculate gravitational potential energy using PE = mgh. Solve for energy, mass, or height.
What is Gravitational Potential Energy?
Gravitational potential energy is the energy an object possesses due to its position in a gravitational field. The formula is PE = mgh, where m is mass (kg), g is gravitational acceleration (9.81 m/s² on Earth), and h is height above a reference point (m). The result is in Joules (J).
Potential and Kinetic Energy
As an object falls, its potential energy converts to kinetic energy. At the highest point, PE is maximum and KE is zero. At the lowest point, PE is zero and KE is maximum. This energy conversion is the basis for hydroelectric power, pendulums, and many mechanical systems.
