☢️ Radioactive Decay Calculator
Calculate radioactive decay using N = N₀ × (½)^(t/t½) or N = N₀ × e^(-λt). Find remaining quantity after a given time.
Radioactive Decay Law
Radioactive decay follows an exponential law: N = N₀ × e^(-λt), where N₀ is the initial quantity, λ is the decay constant, and t is time. Equivalently, using half-life: N = N₀ × (½)^(t/t½), where t½ = ln(2)/λ ≈ 0.693/λ. The half-life is the time for half the radioactive atoms to decay.
Applications of Radioactive Decay
Radioactive decay is used in carbon-14 dating (t½ ≈ 5,730 years), medical imaging, nuclear power generation, and geological age determination. Understanding decay rates is essential for nuclear safety, radiotherapy dosing, and environmental monitoring.
