🌊 Wavelength Calculator
Calculate wavelength, frequency, or wave speed using the wave equation λ = v / f.
The Wave Equation
The wave equation λ = v / f relates wavelength (λ), wave speed (v), and frequency (f). Wavelength is the distance between consecutive crests of a wave, measured in meters. Frequency is the number of cycles per second (Hz), and wave speed is how fast the wave propagates through its medium (m/s).
Applications
This equation applies to all types of waves: sound waves in air (v ≈ 343 m/s), light in vacuum (v ≈ 3 × 10⁸ m/s), water waves, and electromagnetic radiation. For example, the musical note A4 at 440 Hz in air has a wavelength of about 0.78 m.
