Calculate the solar panel system size needed to meet your daily energy consumption, accounting for peak sun hours and system efficiency.

How to Size a Solar Panel System

To determine your solar system size, divide your daily energy usage (kWh) by the peak sun hours in your area and the overall system efficiency. Peak sun hours vary by location — typically 4-6 hours in most of the US (higher in the Southwest, lower in the Northeast).

System efficiency accounts for losses in inverters, wiring, temperature effects, and panel degradation. A realistic efficiency factor is 75-85%. Modern residential panels are typically 370-450W each. Divide the total system wattage by the individual panel wattage to get the number of panels needed.
