🛢️ Tank Volume Calculator

Calculate tank volume in gallons or liters for cylindrical and rectangular tanks. Optionally see the filled volume at a given water level.

How to Calculate Tank Volume

For cylindrical tanks: V = π × r² × h. For rectangular tanks: V = length × width × height. Convert to gallons by dividing cubic inches by 231, or to liters by multiplying gallons by 3.785. Use the optional fill level to find the volume of water currently in the tank.

Common Tank Sizes

Standard water heaters: 40–80 gallons. Rain barrels: 50–65 gallons. Residential water storage: 200–2,500 gallons. Septic tanks: 1,000–1,500 gallons. Actual usable volume may be slightly less due to fittings and overflow clearance.
